This gives a higher top speed, which eases strain on the engine, especially during road trials.
Replica of factory original:
- 29 tooth sleeve gear teamed with
- 16 tooth spur gear, plus
- dedicated nut and bronze bush.
NOTE: On the very last Cubs to be made - eg the Bantam Cub - the spline on the end of the layshaft, where the free-running 16-tooth gear fits, is 0.75 inches across the spline (all other Cubs are 0.7 inches). Our gears will only fit this latest layshaft if you grind the shaft down to 0.7 inches, to fit the gear. There aren’t many (we have only come across 1), but if in doubt, measure your layshaft before ordering.
This ratio means you can actually use second gear in sections... once you’ve tried it, you’ll never go back to a standard second.
